Utica, New York: commercial energy account guide

Local service context

A Utica kitchen should compare electric refrigeration separately from cooking and water-heating fuel. A restaurant's electric and gas needs should be reviewed separately. Refrigeration continues after dining service ends, while ventilation, cooking and dishwashing can cluster during preparation and cleanup. Identify those operating periods before evaluating fixed charges, volume conditions and a contract based on an assumed load shape. Verify whether hot water and cooking share one gas meter or require separate account authorizations.

Apply the New York eligibility rules

In eligible utility service areas, an Energy Service Company (ESCO) can supply electricity while the distribution utility continues delivery. Check the account’s service territory, customer category and current supplier before shopping. Utility eligibility and applicable customer protections should not be inferred from an ESCO advertisement.

New York also has eligible natural gas ESCO arrangements. Verify the gas account separately, including the utility, billed volume, heat-content treatment and any transportation conditions. An electric ESCO relationship does not automatically include gas.

Account checks before requesting offers

For this Utica account, resolve the service-territory and contract questions below before using a price comparison. The current invoice, exact address and account class provide the starting evidence.

• List refrigeration, cooking, ventilation and water-heating fuels with their relevant meter accounts.
• Include closed days and seasonal hours when comparing recurring supplier charges against annual consumption.
• Confirm the exact service address, current bill and legal account holder before using a Utica comparison; city boundaries and utility boundaries need not coincide.
