Separate home supply, business supply and solar

Identify which product each page or salesperson is discussing. A household electricity plan is not automatically available to a commercial meter. A community-solar subscription can involve bill credits and a separate payment rather than replacement electricity supply. Keep those arrangements distinct before comparing cost or cancellation terms.

For any Think commercial proposal, obtain the named seller, service territory, customer class and current agreement. Direct Energy’s business route also needs an account-specific quote, including whether a large-business inquiry uses the NRG channel. Do not infer current terms from a historic agent document or a residential enrollment example.

Define what a fair quote request includes

Supply the same utility bill data, usage period, delivery start and term to each eligible channel. Ask for fixed or variable rate mechanics, all recurring fees and components excluded from the stated number. If a renewable feature is relevant, require written coverage and attribute documentation rather than infer it from the word green.

Review how a referral, sales-adviser or broker relationship is compensated where applicable. The buyer needs the cost and authority boundaries, not assumptions about the quality of an entire sales model. Data-release permission, price requests and enrollment authority should be separately understandable in the documents.

Hypothetical product-boundary example

Suppose a hypothetical supply proposal models 100,000 kWh at $0.10, or $10,000 before delivery. A separate solar subscription is expected to provide $1,000 of credits while charging $900. The $100 credit-payment difference is a separate scenario, not a replacement $0.09 supply rate for the entire account.

These figures are not Think or Direct Energy products or prices. If the supplier comparison involves only electricity supply, compare those contracts directly. If a solar subscription is also considered, verify utility eligibility, credit timing, fees and REC ownership independently. Combining the numbers without their boundaries would create an unexplained savings claim.

Proceed only with an identified commercial arrangement

Retain the actual written offers and explicitly record any channel that could not verify business availability. There is no need to force a two-brand winner when the evidence supports only one actionable proposal or neither. Review existing contract end and notice terms before any enrollment.

Compare final costs, obligations and needed services after eligibility is resolved. Check subsequent invoices if a change is authorized. This guide offers no live price, provider ranking or guarantee that a home-facing plan can serve a business. Its value is preventing different product types and customer categories from being presented as a like-for-like commercial comparison.
