Treat the old listing as a research lead

A historical regulator document can help identify a former legal name or certificate reference. It cannot prove that the entity still has the same authority, ownership, customer class or product today. Use current official records and the actual proposed agreement to resolve those questions rather than promote the old listing into a current recommendation.

If the name appears on an old bill, preserve the bill period, supplier designation and related contract. If it appears in a new solicitation, ask for the current seller and official contact route. Similar names or an old certificate number are not enough to establish that the sender is the same entity or can serve the business.

Verify identity before giving enrollment authority

Confirm utility, ESI ID, commercial class and commodity for the actual Texas account. Obtain the contract’s legal seller and current authority through the appropriate official resources. Where a marketer or adviser presents the offer, identify that party’s role and compensation without assuming it is the retail seller.

A request for pricing should be limited to the information and authority needed for that purpose. Do not change payment details, grant portal access or authorize a supplier switch based on a historical web reference. This is an account-control step, not a claim that a particular company or communication is improper.

Hypothetical current-versus-historical quote error

Suppose a 2020 worksheet contains an invented $0.07 per kWh rate for 300,000 annual kWh, or $21,000. A current hypothetical proposal at $0.10 costs $30,000. The $9,000 difference does not show that the old supplier is a cheaper option today because the historical price may no longer be available.

To make an actionable comparison, obtain two current, eligible offers or compare a current offer with the confirmed existing arrangement. Align dates, scope, delivery assumptions and fees. The numbers here are illustrative and are not AmeriPower or Constellation prices, past or present.

Record an unresolved option honestly

If a current AmeriPower seller and offer cannot be verified, mark that candidate unverified rather than fill the page with guessed pricing, business status or a successor. A Constellation business page can establish a public channel, but it also needs an actual account quote before it becomes a usable alternative.

Keep the historical source date and current evidence separate in the procurement file. This guide gives no present licensing conclusion, provider ranking or savings promise. Its value is preventing a legacy name from being treated as a ready-to-buy supplier option and showing how to compare genuine current terms once identity and eligibility are established.

Questions & answers

Does an old certificate listing prove current availability?

No. Current official authority and an eligible account-specific offer must be verified separately.
