What to establish before acting
Use the current bill to identify the utility, account, meter, rate class, and supplier, then check the signed agreement’s end and notice provisions. Request a replacement offer for the intended period without assuming that a utility transaction cancels the old commercial obligation. Keep signing authority clear. If an account is rejected, record the reason, correction owner, and interim service arrangement. A portfolio is not fully switched because its first account was accepted.
Illustrative decision boundary
For an illustrative two-meter company, one enrollment is accepted and one fails because of an identifier mismatch. Correct and reconfirm the second meter rather than tell finance both receive the new price from signature. Reconcile each first bill to its own actual service dates.

Questions & answers
How many days does a switch take?
There is no nationwide commercial timetable. Utility processing, meter schedules, class, data accuracy, and supplier readiness matter. Obtain account-specific requirements and written acceptance rather than rely on another market’s residential estimate.
Will power or gas be disconnected for the change?
Ordinary supply shopping uses the existing delivery network. Starting physical service, reconnecting a premise, or upgrading capacity is a separate utility process and can have different requirements.
Can I switch before my contract expires?
The utility may process a transaction while the existing contract still creates exit exposure. Determine any settlement, notice, or release requirement before authorizing replacement service.
Does one authorization cover both fuels?
Only if its wording and the relevant processes do so. Electricity and gas eligibility, identifiers, units, terms, and obligations should be checked separately even when procurement is coordinated.
How do I know it worked?
Preserve accepted enrollment and the confirmed effective date, then compare the first full service-period invoice with the executed price and components. A signed proposal alone does not establish correct billing.
