What to establish before acting

Read PJM’s current delivery-year documents and confirm which date and product a quoted figure describes. Auction schedules and rules can change. Map the account’s assigned obligation and any adjustments, then identify whether the contract fixes or passes through the component. A renewal can also change energy, transmission, credit, and load assumptions. Separating those effects is necessary before attributing the full increase to an auction or claiming that a new supplier removes the cost.

Illustrative decision boundary

An illustrative $50/MW-day difference multiplied by an unchanged 0.2 MW for 365 days is $3,650 before actual scaling or other terms. That does not establish a retail impact for another account. Use the correct delivery-year days, quantity, location, and agreement.

Questions & answers

Which year should I look at?

Use the delivery period covered by the business agreement, not only the auction announcement year. Preserve the primary document and date used.

Is the clearing price my capacity bill rate?

It is a market input. The assigned customer obligation, scaling, location, timing, supplier formula, and other adjustments determine the billed amount.

Can every business reduce its tag?

Opportunities depend on actual measurement rules, data, operational flexibility, and timing. Verify the counting intervals and contract treatment before estimating benefits.

Does a fixed energy rate include PJM capacity?

Only the component schedule and adjustment clauses establish that. Require an explicit answer supported by the executed terms.

Does this FAQ publish today’s auction result?

No. It intentionally avoids a time-sensitive clearing number. PJM’s RPM page links the current primary delivery-year materials for a live decision.

Can I multiply an auction percentage by the whole bill?

That would usually misstate the scope. Identify the capacity component and account obligation, then keep energy, delivery, demand, fees, and taxes separate in the budget bridge.
